Existing research has shown that most children attend school nine (nine) months a year for at least six (6) hours per day. This implies that they have only three full months to spend at home. The children spend more time in their schools than with their parents. In the past, they spent their out-of-school times with their mothers; but with the advent of mothers taking full-time employment, their present and future patterns are basically left to the mercy of their teachers and caregivers who have so many children to attend to. A large number of these children have manifested some form of educational, behavioural, mental or emotional maladjustments (Glidewell and Swallow, 1969; Kellam and Schiff, 1967).
In some instances, some experts have argued that the “real” goal of schools is to make job and keep children off the streets. However, our motivation for educational consulting stems from our concern for the problems faced by children and the need to prevent the development of emotional and behavioural disorders in children and make a positive contribution toward children’s development of personal growth that will lead to a higher realization of human potential in adulthood.
As our organization is committed to a culture of molding the child for tomorrow’s society through personalized result oriented staff and pupil/student training programmes, the goal of our programmes is to formerly train childcare givers on the standard and techniques of providing early life care and education to children in a caring and humanitarian way. The programmes are built on the basic philosophy which maximizes human potentials, individuality, growth, self realization and independency as the foundation for normal adult life.
Considering individuals’ unique abilities and changing needs of every child, we hold that a child’s life is most satisfactory when the child’s material and emotional needs are provided. By understanding the laws, principles theory and practices of child development/education, the teachers and other child specialists would prepare the child for a meaningful, happy, healthy and productive life.
The society expects so much from the school system in terms of the well-being, performance and general care of children. This explains why Educators and childcare givers need the empowerment to meet the demands of parents and the society they serve.
